Make some great sounding South America instruments.
Craft Project Directions: You will need paper cups and some rice or dried beans to create the rain stick and then colored tissue paper, paper shreds, and other materials you may want to use to decorate it. Decide how many cups high you wish to make your rain stick and set aside twice as many. Cut the bottoms out of all cups except for two. Put the two with bottoms still intact aside. Take half of remaining cups and fringe them (cut strips into them almost all the way to the bottom of the cup and place these inside the cups that you didn't fringe- they will give your rainstick a great sound. Now stack the cups bottom to bottom and top to top to create a tall rainstick- tape them together tightly. At each end of the stick you will want to have a cup top facing out. Take one of the cups with the bottom still intact and place it top to top with the end cup on one of the ends. Stand the rain stick up and pore two cups or more of rice or beans in to it. Secure the other end of the rainstick by placing the remaining intact cup over the other end. Now cover the rain stick with glue and wrap the rain stick in colored tissue paper- use whatever color you wish. Now decorate- add fringed strips of construction or tissue paper, glitter, pre-cut paper shapes, and more. Let dry and you will have a great rain stick.
