Gold Rush

A Gold Rush is the rapid influx of people into a region or place where gold has been discovered. The United States has had several Gold Rushes and they contributed greatly to the settlement of the West. The largest gold rush began when gold was discovered in California at Sutter's Mill in 1848. Within a year, tens of thousands of '49ers' had come to California seeking gold. Gold Rushes happen all over the world.
