The Seneca -'People of the Great Mountain'- were members of the Iroquois Confederacy. They lived in longhouses in parts of north central New York. They were hunters, farmers, and warriors, and made elm bark canoes and snow shoes. One of their most famous chiefs was Chief Sagoyewatha.
