Choctaw

The Choctaw lived in the Southeast, in parts of Mississippi and Alabama, and were once part of a tribe with the Chickasaw. They were attacked by Hernando de Soto in 1540. They were primarily farmers and traders, lived in thatch houses, and made dugout canoes. They decorated themselves with elaborate tattoos and wore deeskin and buckskin clothing. They were forced to march westward with the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
