Calusa

The Calusa lived in the Southeast in parts of Florida along the Gulf Coast. They built and lived in raised thatched houses. They fished, traded, and built canals. Their temples were mounds covered with shells. They were known for their carvings and paintings. Many died as a result of the Spanish conquest of Florida and by the spread of European diseases.
