Horses are large hoofed animals with short coats of hair, long manes, and long tails. There are more than 150 breeds and types of horses and ponies. The breeds vary considerably in size, strength, speed, and other characteristics and the various breeds are commonly divided into three groups- light horses, heavy horses, and ponies. Well known breeds include the Tennessee Walking Horse, the Arabian, the Thoroughbred, the Morgan, the Clydesdale, the Appaloosa, and the Shetland Pony.
