The Hippopotamus is the third largest land animal in the world. Hippos are large African animals who live in groups of up to forty. They live near the water and spend a lot of time in it. There are two kinds of hippos: the river hippopotamus and the pygmy hippopotamus. A male hippopotamus is called a bull, a female hippopotamus is called a cow, and a baby hippopotamus is called a calf.
