Alaska is located in the most northwestern part of North America and about one third of the state in within the Arctic circle. It was the 49th state admitted to the Union and is the largest state in terms of land area. The state bird is the Willow Ptarmigan, the state flower is the Forget-me-not, the state tree is the Sitka Spruce, and the state gem is Jade. The state capital is Juneau.
